“HOW TO TAKE PICTURES OF NOT PEOPLE” Elberto Muller
This piece is an homage to a few people at the periphery, some of them may be gone by now I have no way to find them… It was written in the spring of 2023 for Lily Pad magazine – I wanted to make a small standalone edition that was easier on the eyes and gave more focus to the text alongside the photos.
The essay itself refers to a woman I still hold dear. A friend, upon reading it, commented, “isn’t the first paragraph a little saccharine?” That friend turned out to be something of a Zionist, that is, one of those people who will never know love, only a finely tuned jealousy… In the end we still have lilacs, and maybe next spring we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther…
